Our week's Open Source Hero with her reading list for the future independent business leaders of the world.
Paperhouses: Do you have a short list of books you love and would recommend either for entertainment or for budding freelancers?
Sara Horowitz: You mean aside from The Freelancer’s Bible?
There are a lot of great books out there that get my gears turning:
Vice President in Charge of Revolution, an autobiography by Murray Lincoln, the one-time head of Nationwide Insurance and president of the Cooperative League of the USA. Interesting guy with a smart take on how to make systemic change.
Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson. Lots to learn about how you stick to your vision and make something truly revolutionary. Also, just a good read.
Anything from the For Dummies catalog. Nobody can be an expert in everything…and you shouldn’t want to be. But you should have enough knowledge to make smart decisions in a lot of different areas, especially for freelancers…and you should know who to trust to help you make decisions you don’t know enough about.
